Trump forms committee to investigate Fed Governor Lisa Cook; White House hearing set for Nov. 5
What happened
President Trump released a White House memorandum (dated Oct. 7, shared Friday) forming a three-person 'committee of inquiry' to investigate whether mortgage-fraud allegations against Fed Governor Lisa Cook give 'cause' for her removal. The committee — National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett, Labor Secretary and acting OGE director Keith Sonderling, and EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas — will hold a closed, transcribed in-person hearing at the White House on Nov. 5, lasting no longer than four hours, where Cook must appear, present her defense with counsel, and face questioning by DOJ lawyers. The memo sets deadlines: a written position statement from Cook at least three days before the hearing and a post-hearing statement by Nov. 10, after which the committee submits findings and a removal recommendation to the president.

- Broad market / rate-sensitive equities: renewed pressure on the politically independent Fed could steepen term premium in Treasuries (the 30-year sits near 5.7%) and add volatility to bank, housing and long-duration growth stocks. Fed funds futures and December-hike odds bear watching for repricing. No single listed company is directly exposed.
