SpaceX selects Qualcomm for Starlink Mobile nationwide 5G network in multi-year deal; Qualcomm calls it its biggest 5G deal yet
What happened
Qualcomm announced on November 4 that SpaceX has selected its Dragonwing cellular infrastructure platforms for Starlink Mobile's planned U.S. nationwide terrestrial 5G network. The multi-year agreement covers the Dragonwing QRU100 radio unit and QDU100 distributed unit platforms plus commercial-grade Layer 1 software, powering 64T64R massive MIMO base stations with SpaceX handling Layer 2/3 code. Deployment is planned to begin in 2027, ramping to tens of thousands of macro cell sites over several years. No financial terms were disclosed, but Qualcomm called it 'our biggest 5G deal yet.' Qualcomm shares climbed more than 3% Wednesday morning, while SpaceX stock fell ~4% on separate election-related pressure.
