Netflix hires Google Cloud AI exec Darshan Kantak to lead ads platform, rolls out AI Discover beta
What happened
Netflix has appointed Darshan Kantak, Google Cloud's vice president of product for Applied AI, as vice president of its ads platform, reporting to president of advertising Amy Reinhard. Kantak — previously at Snap, Meta, Microsoft and Yahoo — will lead Netflix's global advertising product, engineering, and data-and-insights teams, effectively owning the ad layer of Netflix's Ads Suite: the member-facing ads experience plus the reporting and operational tools for ad partners. Separately, Netflix has begun beta-testing an AI-powered 'Discover' feature on TVs in the U.S., starting with mood-based recommendations to improve content discovery, aimed at boosting engagement and ad monetization.
