Market pulse
Stocks are sliding on the final session of October as a Big Tech rout deepens: disappointing earnings and guidance from Amazon and Intel, plus lingering unease over Alphabet's AI capex, dragged the Nasdaq down more than 2% while the Dow held up far better — a clear rotation toward earnings-supported value names. Thursday's hot PCE reading kept December Fed hike risk alive (futures still price a meaningful chance), yet the 10-year Treasury yield has slipped back below 5% to roughly 4.93% on safe-haven demand. Commodities are the other pressure point: WTI is pushing back above $104 on Middle East supply risk, keeping energy-driven inflation front and center, while gold slips toward $4,000 and crypto sells off hard. The thing to watch: whether the tech sell-off broadens — a sharp VIX spike or a weak month-end close would signal the damage is spreading beyond AI names.
